Taste Bud Dud

You know how "science" says that your taste buds change about every seven years? Well what the stink does "science" say about kids? Because I feel like my kids taste buds change about every seven hours. Heck, sometimes it is even every seven seconds.

I have had a kid eat the first five grapes, grinning with delight mind you, shoving them in one after another until I am nervous those full little cheeks and chin dripping with juice are going to choke. And then in the very next moment. Notice I did not say in the next millennium, this very same child spits out the eighth grape and throws the rest on the floor. WTF (what the fruit???????)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you like grapes at 11:33 A.M. and then NOT like them at 11:37 ?????? If some scientist who has studied taste buds could just answer me that I would drink less homemade wine. (Hey, I didn't want to waste all those grapes). Kidding about the wine, but sooooo not kidding about the ever changing taste buds.

You go to the grocery store, which is a freak show in itself when you bring 3 kids five and under with you, and you do your derndest to get what everyone likes (while still challenging their developing palates of course BLAH BLAH).You are really stinkin excited at all the "good" food you got that all have a proven track record for success AND you had a coupon for every one of them. Heavens declare!!!

Only to have that item put on the Disguta List at the very next meal. I'll tell you something. I have given birth without pain meds. I have changed my own tire. I have read The Iliad AND The Odyssey. For fun! But I cry like a baby (and rage like a crazy woman) when my kids reject my food. Why, oh why, it hurts my feelings I will never understand. But it does. Some meals I think there is more junk on the floor afterwards than there is in the whole bloomin refrigerator. If you have a child 2 and under you might as well have a grated kitchen floor. Maybe the Dyson guy can work on that. In the meantime I will be experimenting with taste buds. Right now we are looking at Bitter and Sweet!!
